PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Introduction
Melatonin—chemically known as N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine—is an indole-based hormone widely found in animals, plants, and microorganisms. In the human body, it is primarily secreted by the pineal gland; its secretion exhibits a distinct circadian rhythm, increasing significantly at night while being suppressed during the day. Melatonin plays a pivotal role in regulating the body's circadian rhythms, improving sleep quality, mitigating oxidative stress, and modulating immune function.

Physiological Functions
Regulation of Circadian Rhythms
Melatonin serves as a key signaling molecule for maintaining the body's "biological clock." Light signals are transmitted from the retina to the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), where they inhibit melatonin secretion. Conversely, as the environment darkens, melatonin begins to be released in large quantities, inducing natural drowsiness and thereby helping to establish a regular sleep-wake cycle.

  Induction of Sleep
Melatonin helps shorten sleep latency (the time it takes to fall asleep), reduce the frequency of nocturnal awakenings, and increase the duration of deep sleep. It is primarily indicated for sleep disorders resulting from circadian rhythm disruptions—for instance, effectively alleviating jet lag associated with long-distance travel.

  Antioxidant Activity
Melatonin is recognized as one of the most potent endogenous antioxidants. It effectively scavenges free radicals; unlike many other antioxidants, melatonin is both water-soluble and lipid-soluble, allowing it to readily enter every cell in the body—including mitochondria and the nucleus—to provide comprehensive antioxidant protection for DNA.

  Immune Modulation
Melatonin exerts a dual-modulatory effect on the immune system. At physiological concentrations, it promotes the proliferation of T lymphocytes and the production of cytokines, thereby enhancing the body's overall resistance. In the context of certain inflammatory responses, melatonin can mitigate tissue damage by suppressing excessive immune reactions.
