PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Elderberry is a species complex of flowering plants in the family Caprifoliaceae. Elderberry - the fruit of the Sambucus flowering plant - is a berry-rich plant abundant in antioxidants, boasting high nutritional and medicinal value. For thousands of years, it has been used in traditional medicine, and today it has become a popular functional food and dietary supplement worldwide.
Elderberries extract contain organic pigments, tannin, amino acids, carotenoids, flavonoids, sugar, rutin, viburnic acid, vitaman A and B and a large amount of vitamin C. They are also mildly laxative, a diuretic, and diaphoretic. Flavonoids, including quercetin, are believed to account for the therapeutic actions of the elderberry flowers and berries. Elderberry Sambucus pigment containing glucoside (sambicyanin), anthocyanidin glucoside (cyanidol glucoside), also a hydrogen containing amino acid (iridoid glucoside), morroniside (morroniside). High-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry have been used to identify individual anthocyanins, which give the berry its color.
