Milk Thistle Extract
Milk Thistle Extract is a natural active substance extracted from the dried ripe fruits of Silybum marianum (Asteraceae), with Silymarin as its key component and Silibinin as the main active ingredient. It features strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, protects liver cell membranes, and promotes hepatocyte repair and regeneration. As a classic liver-protective ingredient, it is widely used in pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements and functional foods. The silymarin inclusion rates for the various experimental treatment groups were 0, 0.5‰, 2‰, and 3.5‰, designated as A0, A0.5, A2, and A3.5, respectively.
❶ Analysis of the growth parameters of farmed mandarin fish (Table 2) revealed that, as the dietary inclusion level of silymarin increased, the weight gain rate, specific growth rate, and condition factor of the fish exhibited a trend of initially decreasing and subsequently increasing; notably, Group A3.5 was significantly higher than Group A0.5.
❷ Following the supplementation of silybin in the feed, the total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) in the liver of the mandarin fish increased significantly (Fig. 5), reaching its maximum level in group A3.5 (P < 0.05).
