The proposal notified in G/SPS/N/EU/679 (13 September 2023) is now adopted by  Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/824 of 8 March 2024 concerning  the authorisation of gentian tincture from Gentiana luteaL. as a feed additive for certain animal species (Text with EEA relevance).

Gentian
Gentian is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Gentianaceae family, also known as Gentian root or Mountain Gentian. Gentiana polysaccharides and total flavonoids are effective components of Gentiana alcohol extracts. In the field of animal husbandry, it can serve as a potential natural immune regulator.

The role of gentian root extract as a feed additive
1. Regulating the animal immune system
2. Enhance the ability to clear free radicals
3. Stimulate animal gastric acid and gastric juice secretion, increase gastric protease activity
4. Enhance reproductive performance
